CPA Calculator Examples for Leads, Demos and Purchases

CPA is useful only after the action is clearly defined. A campaign that counts every form fill, a campaign that counts booked demos and a campaign that counts purchases can all report CPA, but they are not measuring the same thing.

Use the CPA Calculator after deciding which action belongs in the denominator. For the wider metric map, start from Paid Campaign Metrics.

Example 1: lead generation

If a campaign spends 600 and produces 40 leads, CPA is 15 per lead when the lead is the chosen action. This is close to CPL, so quality matters. Cheap leads are not enough if sales cannot contact them or if the intent is weak.

Example 2: demo requests

If the same campaign produces 12 booked demos instead of 40 raw leads, the CPA for demos is 50. That number is higher, but it may be more useful because a booked demo is closer to revenue.

Example 3: purchases

If 5 people buy after the campaign and spend was 600, purchase CPA is 120. Whether that is good depends on average order value, margin and repeat purchase behavior.

Read CPA beside other numbers

Compare CPA with CPL, conversion rate and ROAS. CPA says how expensive the action was; it does not prove whether the action was profitable.
