Hreflang is useful when the same intent exists in different languages or regions. It helps search engines understand which version should be shown to which users, but it needs consistency.
Use the Hreflang Tag Generator when building alternate tags, and check canonical URLs with the Canonical Tag Generator before publishing.
Missing return links
If an English page points to an Italian version, the Italian page should point back. One-way hreflang sets are a common source of weak or ignored signals.
Wrong canonical target
Each localized page should usually canonicalize to itself. A translated page that canonicalizes to English can undermine the alternate signal.
Mixed URL formats
Do not mix old slugs, redirected URLs and final URLs in hreflang. Use the final clean URL for every language version.
