KB, MB, GB and TB are used to describe file size, storage space, uploads, backups and transfer limits. The units are simple once you know what scale you are comparing.
Use Kilobytes to Megabytes, Megabytes to Gigabytes, Gigabytes to Megabytes or Gigabytes to Terabytes when exact conversion is needed.
Think in scale
KB is small text or tiny assets. MB is common for images and documents. GB is common for videos and storage plans. TB is common for drives and large backups.
Decimal and binary units can differ
Some systems use 1000-based units, while others use 1024-based units. For everyday comparisons, the difference is often small, but storage tools may show different numbers.
Convert before judging limits
If an upload limit is in MB and your file is shown in GB, convert first. Guessing can make a file look smaller or larger than it is.
