Character limits matter whenever text has to fit inside a small space: search snippets, ad headlines, social previews, buttons, form labels and app screens. The limit is useful, but readability still comes first.
Use the Character Counter while drafting, and compare with the Word Counter when the writing starts to feel dense.
Do not write to the absolute maximum
A title that barely fits can still look cramped. Leave a little room for platform changes, translated text, dynamic values or different devices.
Count after rewriting
First write a clear version. Then shorten repeated words, weak openings and unnecessary qualifiers. Counting too early can make the sentence worse.
Watch the visible preview
A character count is a guide, not a guarantee. Fonts, device width and platform templates can still change how much text is shown.
